Over the past week, our kaimahi have had the opportunity to take part in some incredible kaupapa. This included visiting Te Parapara at Hamilton Gardens and learning different traditional techniques for planting kuumara. While in Kirikiriroa, we also attended an incredible exhibition of aute expert Atarangi Anderson's mahi at Laree Payne Gallery. Aute is one of the traditional tree species that we proudly grow at our centre, and we have been fortunate to learn from Atarangi, so it was fitting and inspiring for us to attend her whakaaturanga.
In addition, our team supported the opening of Te Puea Marae, one of our local marae here in Maangere. We’ve also opened our centre to whaanau from the marae, offering our venue whenever it’s needed.
Each of these experiences has been invaluable for our kaimahi, helping to strengthen our maatauranga and deepen our understanding of Te Ao Maaori and working alongside mana whenua.
