What is Tiitii Toorea?

Tiitii Toorea is a traditional Maaori stick game that was originally used to develop quick reflexes, hand-eye coordination, and rhythm among warriors. Played with wooden sticks (tītī). Different actions are created and waiata (songs) are chanted or sung to help keep the beat of the Tiitii.

Workshop summary

In this engaging workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to learn a series of simple movements using Tiitii. These movements will be choreographed to a waiata Maaori, helping you stay in rhythm while connecting with the cultural meaning of the song.

As you build confidence and skill, you’ll also get the chance to create your own stick actions and share them with the group. This is a great way to express your creativity, work together, and celebrate Maaori culture through music and movement.
